 Second Opinion Service

Requesting a second medical opinion (or SECOND OPINION) is a fundamental patient right that allows them to confirm a diagnosis, explore treatment options, or clarify doubts about complex conditions. This practice should not be viewed as a lack of trust, but rather as a tool for making informed treatment choices.

When should you request one?

Seeking a second opinion is especially advisable in the following cases:

Uncertain diagnosis or symptoms that persist despite treatment.
Serious, rare, or oncological conditions requiring invasive treatments.
The need to confirm the effectiveness of an existing treatment plan.
Proposal for major surgical procedures.

This SECOND OPINION service was created to provide remote NEUROSURGERY consultations to Italian patients, and in particular to international patients who wish to obtain a second opinion regarding their symptoms and any related neurosurgical pathology, as well as to provide further information on a previously received diagnosis and/or to offer treatment options at our hospital.

It also provides further information on a previously received diagnosis and/or offers treatment options at our hospital.

No telephone or video contact is available; the written consultation will be sent as a PDF.

It should be kept in mind that a subsequent outpatient visit may be necessary to integrate the SECOND OPINION and formulate a definitive diagnostic and therapeutic evaluation.

HOW THE SECOND OPINION SERVICE WORKS:

STEP 1 - GATHER DOCUMENTATION

The patient or person requesting the service must collect clinical documentation and complete the administrative documentation, as indicated in the following paragraphs.

1. CLINICAL DOCUMENTATION

The SECOND OPINION Service is based on the information submitted, so it is essential that the documents are accurate and as up to date as possible.

To request a SECOND OPINION, please prepare all of the patient's clinical documentation, officially translated into English or Italian, describing the history of treatments received from the onset of symptoms and illness to the current state of health.

The following documents are required for a correct evaluation:

If additional documents are required, Veronesi Vanni will request them.

Finally, to complete the request, you must attach an IDENTITY DOCUMENT (ID card or passport).
